2012 Summer Programs for Youth at Lions Camp Badger
////
Lions Camp Badger is located in Spencer, New York, approximately 20 miles south of Ithaca. It is located on more than 200 acres of beautiful hills, including more than 100 acres of hiking. Camp programs are open to youth and young adults from every region of the state.
////
We offer three distinct programs for youth and young adults:
////
1. Leadership Experience "Community Connections", Ages 18-26, (June 17-30)
2. Day Camp, Youth, Ages 12 - 21 (July 9 - August 3)
3. Overnight Camp, Youth Ages 8-21 (July 8 - August 4)
////
Lions Camp Badger will operate week long, inclusive summer programs where campers, with and without disabilities, will build greater self-awareness, confidence and independent skills, while providing their families and caregivers a break from the demands of constant care.
////
We will offer structured recreational and "experiential learning" camping programs for youth with special needs and their siblings, ages 8-21. The purpose of our camping experience is to provide experiences where each young person can explore nature, discover their own interests and abilities, experience new adventures, practice social and life skills and, most important, make new friends and have fun.
////
The expectation for all of our campers is that each camper will return home ready to continue to practice and apply the new skills that they have learned at camp.
////
Our goals for all of our camping experience programs include helping campers:
////
- Develop personal goals that build on their individual talents, skills, and strengths.
- Be good decision-makers and make personal choices that support their goals.
- Promote citizenship, leadership, and teamwork.
- Support health and wellness, physical fitness and good nutrition
- Achieve increased independence and community inclusion
- Improve their self image, attitude through an increased understanding of their learning style and how to be successful in home, school and community activities.
////
Camping experiences include a wide range of opportunities, including:
////
- Individual and team sports, including soccer, softball, track and field events
- Hiking, canoeing, boating, gardening, and arts and crafts
- Independent living, career readiness, and transition skill building activities.
- As necessary, personal care and hygiene reminders and supports to promote physical and dental self-care.
- Development of personal interests, hobbies and recreational and leisure activities. Campers will choose among a variety of activities each day, and will be encouraged to participate in activities they may never have tried.
////
All of camp activities are designed to promote:
////
