COVID PROTOCOL FOR CAMPERS AND STAFF DURING CAMP:
Our focus will remain on having FUN and experiencing all that camp has to offer, which we are able to do even with these restrictions. Thank you in advance for your support in making this happen!
- All campers will receive a rapid COVID test when they first arrive.
- We will work within our cabin groups as much as possible, especially during the first few days.
- Campers will sit with their cabin groups while eating.
- Masks are required for everyone when inside except for when sleeping, eating, or drinking. (Some campers are physically unable to wear masks, so there may be a few exceptions.)
- We will hold activities outside as much as possible.
- There will be handwashing stations around camp this summer and campers will be asked to use them between activities.
- Staff will be following this same procedure, and staff working directly with campers are vaccinated.
- We are limiting “in and out” travel for volunteers and day staff as much as possible. Anyone coming in must take a rapid test before interacting with campers. Volunteers (musicians, magician, etc.) will be working with them outside and while socially distanced, and must be vaccinated.
- Staff will have safety protocol to follow when on their day off and when they return
- Staff will be in masks on arrival day.
Our focus will remain on having FUN and experiencing all that camp has to offer, which we are able to do even with these restrictions. Thank you in advance for your support in making this happen!
COVID PREVENTION REQUIREMENTS FOR CAMP
Overnight summer camps have the responsibility to keep everyone as healthy as possible. Because we arrive at camp from many areas, we will all be living together, AND we have some campers with serious health conditions, we have to be extra careful to prevent COVID at camp.
BEFORE CAMP: Campers should be careful to avoid crowds or enclosed spaces with a lot of people. Consider wearing a mask when you are places where you could be exposed. Wash your hands frequently.
Families should make sure to have a backup plan for emergency pickup if they plan to be away during the camp season. While we sincerely hope we don’t have any positive COVID cases at camp, acting quickly in the event we do have one will help prevent the spread. Campers who test positive for COVID during camp must be sent home. Their session will be prorated, and they will have the option of joining us for virtual camp in August if they wish.
IF your camper is showing symptoms just before arrival, we will make every effort to reschedule them into another session if possible. We built in additional staff this summer to help accommodate sudden changes, and appreciate families being proactive with our goal of keeping our camp community healthy.
If you need to reach us on registration morning, you can call the office at 607-589-4800 or Pat’s cell phone (call/text) at 607-768-2386.
Both staff and campers are required to take a PCR lab test before arriving at camp. (This is a nasal swab test that is conducted at a test site and processed in a lab.)
You will need to make arrangements to get the PCR lab test yourselves.
It should be done on the Wednesday or Thursday before your camp session starts.
We must have your PCR test results on file, so please forward the results to [email protected] once you receive them. You may also bring them with you on the day of registration. (We were originally hoping to have on-site PCR testing available at camp, but that is no longer offered by the medical facility.)
You can get the test from any site that offers it, but the closest place to camp is Cayuga Medical Center’s site at 40 Catherwood Road, Ithaca. YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER HERE FOR THE TESTING: https://cayugahealthsystem.org/. Hours are listed on the website, and they are not open on Saturdays.
Please plan to have your camper take the PCR lab test on the Wednesday or Thursday before the camp session starts.
Campers who are registered for multiple sessions may not be able to PCR test in between.
When they are off site, they should avoid crowds if possible (or mask when in indoor crowded settings) and use good hand hygiene.
***PLEASE NOTE THAT WE MUST HAVE LAB-VERIFIED NEGATIVE TEST RESULTS IN ORDER FOR YOUR CAMPER TO BE ADMITTED. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.***

Summer Programs at Lions Camp Badger
Lions Camp Badger is located in Spencer, New York, approximately 20 miles south of Ithaca. It is located on more than 200 acres of beautiful hills and pristine surroundings. While New York State residents receive enrollment priority, our camp programs are open to youth and adults from every region of the US on a space-available basis.
Lions Camp Badger offers sessions for campers with functional differences (such as intellectual disability, autism, cerebral palsy, etc.). Campers are grouped by age. We welcome nonverbal campers and encourage the use of communication devices! We also work with families whose campers may need to bring 1:1 support with them. It is recommended these families start the registration process very early, as it takes some time to make arrangements to best meet the needs of their campers.
One of the “perks” of our beautiful location is its close proximity to recreational and respite opportunities for families. We are just 20 minutes from Ithaca, NY http://www.visitithaca.com/ and 35 minutes from Tioga Downs Casino https://www.tiogadowns.com/. Families from further away can “recharge”, knowing that their camper is safe and having a great time with their friends. Take a moment to explore the many summer possibilities that our area offers!
